SALCA Camp Cancelled

Dear Friends and Campers of Southern Arizona Lutheran Camping Association,

It is with great sadness and regret that we formally announce the cancellation of our elementary and middle school camp, previously scheduled for the week of May 25-29, 2020 at Triangle Y Ranch outside of Tucson.

As we trust you’ll understand, the continual growing threats and restrictions due to COVID-19 make planning for and holding camp with our children and youth too much of a risk for them and for those with whom they have contact.   Just one example of the seriousness of this threat comes from Cara Christ, Director of Arizona Department of Health services, who predicted last week that hospitalizations in the state will peak in May and that 7-13,000 more hospital beds may be needed.

Our Core Planning Team hopes that, sometime later this year, after this threat is over, we can have some type of gathering or reunion of campers and staff.  If that becomes possible we will let you know when and what that will look like.

We fully intend on holding camp in 2021, again more than likely the week of Memorial Day.  We’ll let you know details late this fall.   We hope you’ll join us then!

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Pastor Mark Perry, Camp Dean, pastor@selcaz.org, or 520-459-0444.

We extend our love and care for all of you.  You are all in our prayers for health and well-being through this very trying time.   Don’t hesitate to reach out to your pastor, youth minister, or other caring friend or adult if you ever find yourself struggling to make it through this time.  Please remember that God is with you, we are with you, and we’re all in this together.

One other note: The 2020 camp would have been the last at which Tammy Jo, Desiree and Mia Sanders would be with us in serving as Cabin Leaders and as our Craft Leader.  Bobby, who has also served faithfully over the years as our Canteen leader (among other roles) is taking a job in Montana.  If you know them, you are encouraged to extend your thanks and blessings as they make this move.

May the peace of God which passes all understanding keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus our Lord.
